TUTORIAL 

 

	1.INSERTING NEW COURSES IN THE THEIERE WEB SITE
	Now, we will guide you through the steps needed to introduce a new course in the THEIERE Web site. The process is very simple. We shall distinguish between to insert a new course and to modify a course that already exists.

 

		1.1.INSERTING A COURSE
		Step 1: First, we need to became a registered user. We must contact with jogoso@inf.upv.es and ask for a new login/password to access the system.  Step 2: Now we can enter in the web site: http://roger.disca.upv.es/WebTheiere/ with the login/password obtained in step 1. In the left frame (index frame) appears a tree with the resources. Step 3: We click over the icon Tools and select the desired language from the language list of the left bottom corner. Then, we select the section were we desire to insert the new course. In the next figure we can see an example where we insert an English course in the Internet section.  We click on [Add Child] and the next window appears: Use Title to introduce the title of the course, use URL to insert an optional URL with the course index and use Description to introduce a short description of the course. After this, click [OK] and after a while we can see the information updated.  Step 4: Now we can insert the different pages contained in the course. Click on [Add Child] and you will get the same window as in step 3. Introduce the section title, the page URL and a short description. After this, click over [OK] and you will get the updated information. Repeat this step in every new part of the course but pressing [Add] instead of [Add Child].    Step 5: After completing the introduction of the different course pages, click in [Logout] over the index frame to exit.
		1.2. MODIFYING AN EXISTING COURSE
		To modify a course, already inserted we will go to step 3. We have these possibilities:  To delete the course, we click over its root node over the tree and then over [Remove]. A warning message appears. Click over [OK] and the course will be deleted.  To delete a part of a course, we just need to select it from the tree in the index frame and then click on [Remove]. Again, a warning message appears. Click over [OK] and the section disappears.  To insert a new section before another, we select the latter and click over [Insert], follow the instructions described in step 4.  To modify a part of a course, we select it and click over [Modify]. The course data we have introduced appears and we can modify it. Click over [OK] to save the changes.

 

 

	2. GENERAL X-REPOSITORY DESCRIPTION
	2.1 Introduction X-Repository is a tool addressed to manage educational resources in the context of the THEIERE project. It can be accessed at:  http://roger.disca.upv.es/WebTheiere2/Theiere.html At this moment, it only runs using Internet Explorer or latest versions of Netscape, and it is a prototype. Therefore, changes can be made in future X-Repository versions.  2.2 Main application Figure 1 shows the main X-Repository screen. It contains several display areas: Upper frame (right EAEEIE icon): provides main application options such as "Packages" and "Tools".  Left frame (below EAEEIE icon): provides control and index display. It allows the user identification in order to obtain "Tools" access permission. Additional information such as current language or LOM access is also displayed on.  Central frame: displays contents, in this case, there is a reference to the project home page. Figure 1: X-Repository main screen  Main options are: Home (main page).  Harmonization (not available).  Packages: allows the user the access to the educational resources. This information is classified in "THEIERE package" categories. At the moment, there are four available packages (Computer, Internet, Communication and Fundamental). In this option, package introduction or edition is not allowed.  Search (not available).  E-mail (not available).  Tools: allows the user the introduction and edition of references to educational resources. It is also based on "package" categories and it requires the user to be identified. 2.3 "Packages" option This option provides information about the introduced educational resources. Once this option is selected, left frame shows an index structure. User can select index items or he can use control objects to move through them. Information about the selected package items is displayed on the central frame.   Figure 2 shows a snapshot, which displays part of the Internet package index on the left frame and a reference to an Internet tutorial in the central frame. LOM button (left frame bottom) allows the access to information about the selected resource item.  Figure 2: Internet package example 2.4 "Tools" option User can introduce references to educational resources by using the "Tools" option. Next operations are available: Add child: appends a new item as a child of the current item.  Add: appends a new item after the current item.  Insert: inserts a new item before the current item.  Modify: modifies values of the current item such as Title, URL or Description.  Translate: allows the introduction of the current item using another language. Figure 3: Example of "Tools" application. Figure 3 shows the application of "Tools" option to edit the Internet package and add or modify its items. An example of item introduction is displayed on Figure 4. It shows how resource information such as Title, URL or Description is introduced. After doing these operations, "Packages" option allows the user to see all the changes. Figure 5 shows an example of Internet item, which is translated from English to Spanish.
